Mayor Eric Adams has proclaimed that a special election will take place on March 25, 2025, to fill the vacancy in Brooklyn’s 44th City Council District. This seat, currently held by Councilman Kalman Yeger, will become vacant when Yeger steps down on December 31, 2024, to begin his new role as Assemblyman for the 41st Assembly District.

Mayor Adams invoked his authority under Sections 25(b)(1) and 25(b)(6) of the New York City Charter to schedule this special election.
