In the Brooklyn Borough President race, Khari Edwards has received the endorsement of District Council 37 (DC 37), New York City’s largest public employee union. The endorsement, announced through a press release on April 24, 2025, provides a significant boost to Edwards’ campaign, reinforcing his commitment to serving the residents of Brooklyn. This endorsement from a union representing over 150,000 members signifies strong support from the city’s public workforce.
DC 37 Executive Director Henry Garrido emphasized Edwards’ unwavering support for union families and the Brooklyn community. “Khari Edwards has been a steadfast ally to the members of DC 37, supporting families in need, standing in solidarity with us at rallies, and always answering the call when it matters most,” Garrido stated. “His commitment to our shared values and his dedication to the people of Brooklyn are exemplary of the leadership we believe the borough deserves. We’re proud to support his campaign and to help deliver a victory— not just for Khari, but for all Brooklyn residents.” Garrido’s praise highlights Edwards’ dedication to the values of labor and community service.
Shaun D. Francois I, President of DC 37 and Local 372, spoke about Edwards’ deep connection with the community, saying, “In the heart of Brooklyn, where dreams meet determination, true leadership finds its voice in Khari Edwards,” Francois said. “In a borough where every block tells a story, they must be heard by a leader who has done the work. This endorsement of Khari Edwards is not just a stamp of approval – it’s a promise to amplify the voices of the people whose rhythm is Brooklyn’s pulse. This is a candidate who stays ready, so he doesn’t have to get ready.” This emphasizes Edwards’ readiness to lead and represent the diverse voices of Brooklyn.
The press release also included endorsements from elected officials. Assemblymember Latrice Walker shared her long-standing relationship with Edwards, stating, “I’ve known Khari Edwards for over 20 years, and throughout that time, he has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to serving his community, Brooklyn, and the entire State of New York. Whether in government or health care, Khari has always led with an unwavering commitment to putting people at the center of every decision. His energy is the catalyst for meaningful service and lasting impact. DC 37 is the heart of New York City—its 150,000+ members are the ones who keep this city running. I’m excited and proud that they’ve chosen to endorse someone who not only understands the work but has always done the work. Khari Edwards is the right choice.”
Assemblymember Stefani Zinerman echoed this sentiment, adding, “As a legislator who partners with labor to deliver equity and opportunity, I know strong leadership when I see it. Khari Edwards has earned the trust of working families because he’s been in the trenches with us—fighting for fair wages, safe communities, and dignity on the job. He’s ready to lead, and I proudly endorse him for Brooklyn Borough President.” These endorsements highlight Edwards’ commitment to working families and his ability to lead.
Edwards responded to the endorsement by saying, “I’m honored to have the endorsement of DC 37. Our campaign is about making Brooklyn work for the hardworking members of DC 37 and for all the working people who build, serve and sustain our borough every day.” His response reinforces his focus on improving the lives of working families in Brooklyn.
