Meera Joshi’s appointment as president of Green-Wood Cemetery marks a transition of leadership as she succeeds Richard J. Moylan, who led the institution for nearly four decades. Under Moylan’s leadership, Green-Wood achieved National Historic Landmark status, gained arboretum accreditation, expanded its public programming, and undertook major restoration projects. Joshi now steps into this role with a vision for the future, building upon the foundation laid by her predecessor. Moylan expressed his confidence in Joshi, stating, “Through my 39 years at Green-Wood, I have been immensely proud to help this incredible place grow, thrive, and connect with new audiences. I could not be more confident in our staff and their unwavering passion for Green-Wood. I am proud and optimistic about this institution’s future under Meera’s skilled leadership.” Joshi officially assumes her responsibilities in July. Her challenge is to honor Green-Wood’s rich history while also steering it towards a sustainable and engaging future. This includes embracing new technologies, expanding educational opportunities, and fostering a deeper connection with the community. Under Joshi’s leadership, Green-Wood is positioned to maintain its legacy and expand its role as a vital cultural and environmental resource for New York City.
