Rodriguez-Rosa’s career began in the late 1970s as a tenant organizer, working under the federal Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) program. She then served at Brooklyn Borough Hall and as district manager for Community Board 4 in Bushwick, gaining valuable experience in local government and community development.
Rising Through the Ranks at NYC Parks
In 1986, Rodriguez-Rosa joined NYC Parks, where she held a variety of roles over the decades, including director of community boards, operations manager in Manhattan, and chief of recreation in the Public Programs Division in both the Bronx and Queens. Her most recent role as first deputy commissioner saw her tackling challenges such as the city’s lifeguard shortage.
Her vast experience and deep understanding of the city’s parks system make her uniquely qualified to lead the department. She has a proven track record of working with communities, advocating for equitable access, and implementing innovative programs.
