Brooklyn Boro President Eric Adams Partners With AlphaCare in Diabetes Awareness Health Fair

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams has made it his obligation to talk about his battle with diabetes, and how he changed his eating habits to fight the disease. Now he is officially spreading the news to Brooklyn’s senior population, in an effort to make them aware of the various ways to fight diabetes.

Adams has teamed up with AlphaCare, a Brooklyn based health insurance plan that concentrates on managed long term care (MLTC), to present the Wellness and Resource Series.  The series will kickoff with the Diabetes Awareness Health Fair, May 18, at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration, with partners that include the American Diabetes Association, Interfaith Hospital, Brookdale Hospital, Access-A-Ride, NYC Department of Aging, New York for Seniors magazine and others.

“We are all responsible for our own bodies and that’s why we need to raise awareness around taking control of our health,” said Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams. “Through my own experience dealing with Type 2 diabetes, I learned that the body has an incredible capacity to heal itself with exercise, and nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables and natural products. The Wellness and Resource Series is exactly the kind of community collaboration we should be focused on to help our friends and neighbors take control of their health.”

The event is free, and open to all seniors throughout Brooklyn.
